One symptom, several possible causes
The pressure drops. This is the symptom we hear most often over the phone. It can stem from a leak in the network, a saturated separator, an intake valve that no longer opens fully, a worn screw element, or simply an increase in air demand that went unreported.
Five causes, five very different invoices. This is why the diagnostic comes before the quote, never the other way around.
Our Method
The technician begins with measurements: pressures, temperatures, current draw, separator differential pressure, and load/unload cycles. These readings eliminate half of the hypotheses within twenty minutes.
Next comes the mechanical inspection: condition of the compressor element, bearing play, seals, oil circuit, cooler, and cabinet ventilation. For a piston unit, we add an examination of the valves, rings, and cylinder head.
You receive the diagnostic with your options: repair, component replacement, complete overhaul, or unit replacement. We provide our recommendation and explain the reasoning behind it. The decision remains yours.
Overhauling: An Often Overlooked Option
A ten- or fifteen-year-old unit with a sound crankcase and frame does not always belong in the scrap heap. Overhauling replaces the compressor element, bearings, seals, and the electrical circuit if necessary, giving the machine a second useful life for a fraction of the price of a new one.
We overhaul units for our clients and also keep some in stock for resale. This practice has taught us which machines age well and which ones are not worth the investment. We will tell you frankly.
